Prof. Dr. Jules Stuyck

_Jules.JPGJules Stuyck (born 31 July 1948 in Tienen), (1965-1970) Law degree at K.U.Leuven; (1975) Ph.D. on "Aggressive Sales Methods" at the K.U.Leuven; (1976) research visits to the Max Planck Institut Münich. Since 1987 professor at the K.U.Leuven, Faculty of Law. Presently professor of European Law  and Consumer Law. Since 1987 professor of European Law at the Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen; (1996-2007). Since 2000 visiting professor of EU Competition Law at the Central European University Budapest. Since 2008 visiting professor of European Consumer Law at Université Panthéon-Assass Paris II. Until 2007 professor of Economic law at the Faculty of Economics and Applied Economics, K.U.Leuven; (1990-1991) and (1994-1995) holder of the Jean Monnet Chair at the University of Bonn, Zentrum für Europäisches Wirtschaftsrecht; (1998-1999) Jacques Delors Chair, Alma Universities (Liège, Hasselt, Aachen, Maastricht). Prof. Dr. Evelyne Terryn

evelyne.jpgEvelyne Terryn studied law in Kortrijk (Magna cum laude, 1994) and Leuven (Summa cum laude, 1997), London (King’s College London, 1996) and Oxford (New College, MJur, first, 1998). She obtained her Ph.D. at the K.U.Leuven in 2005 on ‘the right of withdrawal as an instrument of consumer protection’, which was awarded the Raymond Derine Prize for human sciences. She is a professor at the K.U.Leuven since 2005 and she teaches commercial and company law and legal writing. She started her career as a lawyer with Cleary, Gottlieb (1998-99) and was a member of the Brussels bar from 1998 until 2002. She became a researcher at the Study Centre for Consumer Law in 1999. She is a co-editor in chief of DCCR (Tijdschrift voor Consumentenrecht) and a member of the editorial board of the Dutch TvC. She is a member of the Acquis group and was a member of the European Consumer Law Group and the Consumer Law Enforcement Forum. Her research focuses on (European) consumer law and European contract law, credit contracts and distribution contracts. She is co-editor (with J. Stuyck, H. Micklitz and D. Droshout) of the Ius Commune Casebook on Consumer Law (Hart, 2010)..

Prof. Dr. Tom Van Dyck

 

_Tom2.JPGTom Van Dyck (born 16 December 1976 in Kortrijk) graduated from K.U.Leuven in 1999. He holds additional degrees from King’s College London (1998) and New York University (LL.M.; 2000) where he was BAEF Fellow. In 2006-2007 he was a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School, where he prepared a 800 pages doctoral thesis on the Prospectus Directive 2003/71/EC and its implementation in 5 key EU jurisdictions (Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom). On 3 March 2009, he defended this Ph.d. at K.U.Leuven. As of 2008, Tom Van Dyck is a part-time professor at the Facultés Universitaires Saint-Louis in Brussels. Since 2009, he also teaches the specialized course “Regulation of Financial Services in Europe” at the K.U.Leuven. Since 2000, Tom has published about 40 articles in leading Belgian and international law journals and books. His current research focuses mostly on securities regulation as well as banking and financial law, and in particular the Prospectus Directive, UCITS, MiFID, the Market Abuse Directive and the Transparency Directive. Also working as an attorney since 2000, Tom specializes in securities regulation and financial law. He is a member both of the Brussels bar and the New York bar.

Dr. Veerle Colaert

Veerle Colaert (born 20 September 1977) is a fellow of the Flemish Fund for Scientific research (E.G. de Barsy scholarship). Veerle obtained a law degree (KUL, magna cum laude) in 2000 and a candidate degree in philosophy (KUL, cum laude) in 1999. During the second semester of 2000 she studied at New York University. She started her career as a lawyer focusing on company law and banking and financial law. She was a member of the Brussels bar from 2000 until 2005. Veerle joined the Centre for European Economic Law and the Study Centre for Consumer Law in 2005 as a full-time researcher. In October 2006 she obtained the E.G. de Barsy scholarship for research in the financial sector from the Flemish Fund for Scientific Research (FWO). On 29 March 2010 she defended her PhD thesis: “The multi-layered legal framework governing the financial institution – investor relationship. A study of the combined application of the MiFID rules of conduct, consumer law and civil law, applied to pretransactional information obligations”.

Dr. Maarten Peeters

Maarten Peeters (born 1 January 1980) graduated from Universiteit Antwerpen in 2003 (magna cum laude). He obtained additional Masters degrees in ICT Law and Management (FUNDP Namur, 2004, magna cum laude) and in Maritime Sciences (UA/UGent, 2006, magna cum laude). He was a member of the Brussels bar in 2004-2005, focusing on ICT and media law. In 2006, he joined the Centre for European Economic Law as a full-time researcher. On 29 April 2011 he defended his PhD thesis on EU State Aid Control. Maarten also performs research in the field of competition law and transport law.

Drs. Süleyman Parlak

_Suleyman2.JPGSüleyman Parlak (born 17 November 1981 in Ankara) graduated from the University of Utrecht in 2006. During the academic year 2004-2005 he studied at University of Victoria, Canada B.C., in the context of the Erasmus Exchange Program. He started his career as a lawyer focusing at European and Dutch competition law from 2006-2007. From 01/02/07 until 01/09/07 he was lecturer of Inleiding Europeesrecht (Introduction to European Law) and European Competition law at the Radboud Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen. Süleyman Parlak joined the Centre for European Economic Law and the Study Centre for Consumer Law in September 2007 as a full-time researcher. Currently, he is preparing his PhD thesis on “Indirect Purchaser Standing and Passing-on Defense, As Components of Private Enforcement of the EC Antitrust Rules”.

Drs. Johan Vannerom

Johan Vannerom (born 19 December 1984) graduated from K.U.Leuven in 2007 (magna cum laude). He holds an additional master degree in canon law (K.U.Leuven, magna cum laude, 2008) and has obtained a Certificate in Private International and Comparative Law at the University of Vienna (Universität Wien, “mit Auszeichnung”, 2007). During the academic year 2006-2007 he studied at the University of Vienna, Austria, in the context of the Erasmus Exchange Programme. He started his career as a lawyer focusing on corporate and finance law, and was a member of the Brussels bar from 2007 until 2008. Since September 2008, Johan is a full-time researcher at the Centre for European Economic Law and the Study Centre for Consumer Law. He is currently preparing a Ph.D. thesis on “The revision and termination of credit agreements as an instrument of consumer protection”. Johan is also the secretary of the editorial board of DCCR (“Droit de la Consommation / Consumentenrecht”).

Drs. Michaël Vansteenbeeck

_michael.JPGMichaël Vansteenbeeck (born 19 November 1983) started his studies in Namur (FUNDP) and graduated from K.U.Leuven in 2006 (cum laude). He holds an additional master degree in European law (ULB, magna cum laude, 2007). During the academic year 2004-2005 he studied at the Université René Descartes (Paris V), in the context of the Erasmus Exchange Program. Since September 2007, he is active as a lawyer and as a member of the Brussels bar. He is specialized in European and competition law. Since September 2009, Michael is assistant at the Institute for Methodology of Law and as of February 2010, he is a researcher at the Centre for European Economic Law and the Study Centre for Consumer Law. He is currently preparing a Ph.D. thesis on the rights and obligations of trade intermediaries in a cross-border context.

Drs. Mathias Hostens

_Mathias.JPGMathias Hostens (born 16 April 1985 in Roeselare) holds a law degree at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2008). During his last year he studied at Université des Sciences Sociales de Toulouse in the context of Erasmus Exchange Program. In 2009 he obtained an additional degree in European Law at Université Libre de Bruxelles and completed an internship at the law firm Doutrelepont & associés. Since September 2009 he is an assistant at K.U.Leuven Campus Kortrijk and is preparing a doctoral thesis on the issue of compensation of health damage caused by uncertain risks under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Evelyne Terryn and co-supervision of Prof. dr. Caroline Van Schoubroeck'

Drs. Anne Vandoolaeghe 

Anne Vandoolaeghe (born 10 April 1985 in Kortrijk) holds a law degree at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (2008). During the academic year 2006-2007 she studied at Université de Montpellier I in the context of Erasmus Exchange Program. Since September 2008, she is an assistant at K.U.Leuven Campus Kortrijk and is preparing a Ph.D. thesis on the particular statute of money in property law in supervision of Prof. Dr. Evelyne Terryn and co-supervision of Prof. dr. Vincent Sagaert.

Drs. Pieterjan Naeyaert

Pieterjan Naeyaert (born 6 November 1979) holds a law degree at K.U.Leuven (2002). He obtained a Master of taxation (2003), a Master of company law (2003) and a Master of Intellectual Property Rights (2008). He was a member of the Bar of Kortrijk from 2003 until 2007. Since 2007 he is a doctoral researcher at K.U.Leuven Campus Kortrijk and is preparing a doctoral dissertation on "Termination of contracts with integrated legally independent commercial intermediaries and distributors. A transversal investigation into the common rules and the need for harmonisation.” under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Evelyne Terryn.

Ms. Majo Werrebrouck

Majo Werrebrouck is the administrative coordinator at the SCR and CEER. Since 1990 she has een working for Prof. Jules Stuyck as PA and since 2006 for Prof. Evelyne Terryn. She is also working for the Job Service “plaatsingsdienst” of the law faculty where she is responsible for the organisation of the summer internships and jobinterviews for the students on campus.
