Thomas Richter

Dr. Thomas Richter, is an attorney-at-law (Rechtsanwalt) - member of the Bar in Freiburg, Germany, and since 2006 an independent consultant in Chin ese legal matters.

Dr. Richter studied law, Chinese language, and Chinese legal culture at the University of Passau and the East China Institute for Politics and Law in Shanghai. He holds a Doctorate from the University of Freiburg (2001) with a thesis on environmental crimes in the People's Republic of China. From 1996 to 2006, he was a senior research fellow and head of the East Asian Department at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law.

He has numerous publications in the fields of environmental law, criminal law, and human rights law; and since 2005 has taught Environmental Law in China on the MEEL programme. For the last 6 years he has also been a visiting lecturer at th Himeji Dokkyo University, Law School in Himeji/Japan.
