George W. Pring
Prof. George W. ("Rock") Pring is Professor of Law at the Sturm College of Law, University of Denver in Colorado, USA, where he teaches International, Environmental, and Constitutional Law courses.
He has practiced law in a national law firm; in government service as Chief of Environmental Litigation for the State of Ohio; in public-interest practice with the Environmental Defense Fund; and now as an international environmental consultant. He and his wife Kitty direct the University of Denver Environmental Courts and Tribunals (ECT) Study and have co-authored Greening Justice: Creating and Improving Environmental Courts and Tribunals. He has co-authored the treatise International Environmental Law & Policy for the 21st Century and Human Rights in Natural Resource Development; contributed to The Mineral Law & Policy Compendium and The Encyclopedia of Public International Law; and published numerous other works. He also co-authored the pioneering book SLAPPs: Getting Sued for Speaking Out, which first named and drew international attention to the problem of "Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation" in government, or lawsuits to prevent or punish citizens' communications to their government officials. Prof. Pring has also written broadly on constitutional and human rights issues.
He is past Chair of the State of Colorado Hazardous Waste Commission; former Adjunct Professor in Environmental Science and Engineering at the Colorado School of Mine; former US representative on the Academic Advisory Group of the International Bar Association Section on Energy, Environment, and Resources Law; a member of the founding Board of Trustees of Galen University in Belize, Central America; co-founder and Vice President for Conservation of the Clear Creek Land Conservancy; and has served on many government regulatory and advisory bodies.
