Alumni Experience
Dr. Anatole Boute - a MEEL alumni, is now a Lecturer in Law at the University of Aberdeen (Centre for Energy Law) and Legal Advisor to the World Bank Russia Renewable Energy Programme.
He graduated in law and in political sciences from the KU Leuven, after which he obtained the LL.M in Energy & Environmental Law from the same university. In 2005, he was called to the Brussels bar where he practiced for almost four years in the energy law department headed by Guy Block in the law firms Lawfort and Janson Baugniet. He advised on and was involved in litigation concerning the liberalization of energy markets, the promotion of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions trading and nuclear energy. In January 2011, he defended his PhD on the modernization of the Russian electricity production sector written under the supervision of Martha Roggenkamp at the University of Groningen. Based on the results of this research, he advised the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development for the World Investment Report 2010.
