Methodology of law

A charastic of the ‘Leuven school’ of Canon Law is the attention which is paid to the ‘law’ in the study of canon law. Canon Law is in the first place the study of rules which control the life of a ecclesiastical community and its position in civil law. Special to canon law as ‘law’ is that its foundations are situated in the life of the Church and its theology.

Open and ambiant atmosphere

The faculty of Canon Law comprises only forty students. As a result, contacts among students and between staff and students are very intense and enduring. Ties are maintained even when former students become bishop in China or India or vicar general in Los Angeles or Seattle. Besides this they certainly will remember that evenings in Leuven can be very long and pleasant.
