Student pictureTestimonial: Matthias Vierstraete

"I felt the need to gain a better understanding of the regulations and legal issues in the field of ICT and Media Law, as the IP practice I had been working in for two years had evolved more and more towards ICT law.
The Postgraduate Studies in ICT and Media Law at the KUL allowed me to become more familiar with certain of the more complex topics in these rapidly evolving domains.
Not only the purely legal modules, but also the technical courses lectured by specialists gave me fundamental insights, which have already proven their use in practice.
The courses are structured in such a way that there is a good balance between the theory and the practical application thereof.
The visiting lecturers, professors and researchers at ICRI are very approachable.
The flexibility that is possible is much appreciated, especially when combining the Postgraduate Studies with a full-time job.

LL.M. in IP / ICT Law (2012-2013)

Structure overview

From the academic year 2012-2013 onwards the former Postgraduate Studies in ICT & Media Law programme will be offered as a specialised track within the Advanced Master in Intellectual Property Rights ("Master-na-Master in de Intellectuele Rechten") of the HUB.

This programme provides an in-depth study of European ICT, IP and Media Law. The ICT and media sector is a rapidly evolving and highly complex sector, influenced by technological, economic and sociological developments. In this sector, existing legal frameworks are continuously challenged, traditional legal concepts and principles need to be reinterpreted and an insight into other – connected – disciplines is vital to function at a high level. The programme intends to address the increasing demand for qualified legal practitioners in the ICT and media sector. To achieve this objective students will be offered a comprehensive study of European IP law, IT law and media and communications law, with a specific focus on relevant interdisciplinary perspectives (technology; economy; socio-political, cultural and media studies), and a number of practical skills that are of particular importance in this sector. The programme is aimed at national and international graduate as well as professional students. It is also possible to combine the English courses with the Dutch and/or French courses from the Advanced Master in Intellectual Property Rights.
