Bjorn COENE

Björn Coene obtained his law degree (magna cum laude) in 2003 at the University of Ghent. In 2004, he obtained a master’s degree in intellectual property law (magna cum laude) at the Catholic University of Brussels. That same year, Björn Coene was granted a scholarship by the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO) and started working as a researcher at the University of Ghent. During that time, in 2006 and 2007, he also performed research as a scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property and Competition Law in Munich.

In April 2011, Björn Coene joined ICRI. He currently writes a doctoral thesis concerning ‘The desirability of the investment protection schemes offered by the sui generis intellectual property rights concerning chips, computer programs and databases’.
