European Master Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA)
General information
The European Master Degree in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) is an intensive one-year academic course to educate professionals in the field of human rights and democratisation and provide its graduates with practical work experience. It is a multidisciplinary programme. Students have the opportunity to meet and be taught by leading academics, experts and representatives of international organisations while studying in a multi-cultural environment.
The programme offers a full semester (September - January) in Venice, and a second semester (February - July) in one of the 29 participating universities.
As an example of European inter-university co-operation, the E.MA is organised by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC).

Admission requirements
Applicants are required to hold a university degree of a high standard, normally in a field relevant to human rights, including disciplines in law, social sciences, and the humanities. Fluency in English and the ability to understand lectures and read academic texts in French is required. Practical experience in the area of human rights in inter-governmental, governmental, or non-governmental organisations is helpful.The criteria used during the selection process are: academic ability and background, experience, motivation, and language competence. 80 places are allocated to EU citizens, out of which 20 are reserved for citizens of the ten new EU countries; 10 places are allocated to non-EU citizens a All non-EU applicants must obtain a study visa covering the entire duration of the academic year (September 2005 - September 2006).
