Why this is useful and more importantly how to resolve a dispute in an alternative way and still positive way, Dirk De Meulemeester will explain in this reading. He has a wide range of experience as an arbiter and counsel in national and international arbitration (cepina, ICC,..).

Voor velen is een jaar bijstuderen in de US een ervaring die tot de verbeelding spreekt. Op deze infosessie informeren we jullie graag over alles wat de LL.M programma's in de States te maken hebben: procedure, toelatingsvoorwaarden, praktische moeilijkheden, financiering, ...

De sprekers zijn niet van de minsten. Wij ontvangen namelijk Louis Aucoin, vertegenwoordiger van het LLM program van de gerenommeerde Tufts University. Daarnaast ontvangen we Erica Lutes van de "Commission for Educational Exchange between the US and Belgium". Die organisatie tracht aan de hand van het geven van informatie, ondersteuning en scholarships de Belgische studenten de mogelijkheid te geven om een periode in de US te studeren of onderzoek te doen.

Dze infosessie is een ware must voor iedereen die een LL.M overweegt of meer algemeen graag in het buitenland zou studeren of doctoreren.

De infosessie zal gepaard gaan met een vragenronde en een afsluitende receptie, waarop u al uw vragen op een meer informele wijze zult kunnen stellen aan de sprekers.

Negotiating contracts and deals is another part of a lawyer’s core business. It requires a lot of skills to which we would like to introduce you on this interesting workshop! The lecturer, who is attorney at the Brussels bar and working for Linklaters LLP, will tell you how to to resolve disputes, to produce an agreement upon courses of action, to bargain for individual or collective advantage, or to craft outcomes to satisfy various interests.

After the workshop, you will have the opportunity to meet your fellow students with some drinks on this exclusive location. Participation is free.

Due to the high level of specialization, the workshop is only open for master students in law. As only a limited number of seats are available, you have to register in advance.

ELSA invites you all to the official opening ceremony of the ELSA Moot Court Competition on WTO Law, Wednesday the 3rd of May at 19h (Zeger van Hee, Oude Valk).

From the 3rd till the 6th of May the European finale of the “ELSA Moot Court Competition on World Trade Organisation Law” takes place in Leuven. During this four days event law students from all over Europe and several WTO-experts meet each other.

During the openings ceremony special guest Prof. Dr. Frank Hoffmeister (Deputy Head of Cabinet to the Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht) will give a keynote speech on "Why WTO Law Matters: A European Perspective". The evening closes with a reception for all attendees.

On Thursday and Friday the teams compete in the Leuven Province building for a spot in the semi-finals. The competition simulates the procedure of the Dispute Settlement Body of the WTO. On Saturday the semi-finals and the grand finale takes place in the Zeger van Hee (Oude Valk). Of course everyone is always welcome at the several pleading sessions.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Genocide Convention, the Institute for International Law, the Leuven Centre for Global Governance Studies and ELSA Leuven offer you a guest lecture by Dr. Paul Behrens, from Leicester University, lecturer in International and Criminal Law at Leicester University. The lecture will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Arne Vandaele.

Almost one month ago, Barack Obama has been elected as the 44th President of the United States of America. Now is the time for a thorough reflection on this elections, and on the team Obama is putting together. This will be done by prof. Bart Kerremans, an expert of American politics.

Our partner LECEUS is organising the first international simulation of the Council of the European Union, in October. ELSA Leuven will participate with its own, international, team.
