Welkom bij het Instituut Contractenrecht
Als een onderdeel van de Afdeling Privaatrecht is het Instituut in de jaren zeventig opgericht door Prof. Em. J.H. Herbots, en staat sinds 2002 onder leiding van Prof. Dr. Alain Verbeke. Het Instituut is verantwoordelijk voor het onderwijs in de Bijzondere Overeenkomsten en doet onderzoek in het domein van het contractenrecht.
Het onderwijs omvat in de Bachelor rechten de vakken goederen- en bijzondere overeenkomstenrecht te Leuven en aan de KULAK, evenals de werkcolleges, seminaries en meesterproef bijzondere overeenkomsten en het vak European Contract Law in de Master rechten. Dit vak omvat ook 12 u colleges in negotiation, en in het kader hiervan werden in het verleden ook Robert H. Mnookin Negotiation Workshops georganiseerd in Leuven.
Het onderzoek is gevarieerd. In de voorbije jaren zijn er reeds zes doctoraten verdedigd en vier post-doctorale onderzoeksmandaten bekomen. Er is een research program rond Art, Law & Management, Gambling Law, en bouwrecht, en expertise inzake negotiation en mediation, en estate planning (HEP en TEP). Het Instituut participeerde in zowel een binnen- als een buitenlandse Franquileerstoel, en twee TPR-leerstoelen.
De reeks Knelpunten Contractenrecht focust sinds 2002 elk jaar met twee studieavonden en een boek op een thema van de bijzondere overeenkomsten. Met het boek Vermogensrecht in kort bestek wordt de materie, geïntegreerd met het goederenrecht, grondig en toch bevattelijk toegelicht. Dit geldt ook voor de klassieker Dekkers-Verbeke, III, over Verbintenissen, bewijsleer en gebruikelijke contracten, bewerkt door A. Verbeke, N. Carette en K. Vanhove. De reeks Contrat & Patrimoine is een samenwerking met KULAK, ULB, Lille en Paris 2. Verder is het Instituut ook betrokken bij de hoofdredactie van de reeksen Recht en Onderneming, de Bibliotheek Burgerlijk en Procesrecht, Recht in kort bestek.
Het Instituut werkt op onderzoeksvlak nauw samen met het Centrum voor Rechtsmethodiek o.l.v. Prof. B. Tilleman, het Instituut voor Goederenrecht o.l.v. Prof. V. Sagaert & Prof. A. Verbeke, en het Centrum voor Bouwrecht o.l.v. Prof. K. Deketelaere & Prof. A. Verbeke.
Welcome at the Institute for Contract Law
The Institute was established in the seventies by Prof. Em. J. Herbots as part of the Department of Private Law, and is led by Prof. Dr. Alain Verbeke since 2002. It is responsible for the teaching of Specific Contracts and research in the field of contract law.
Teaching includes the course on contracts and property in Leuven and KULAK, as well as practical courses, seminars and master thesis in specific contracts in the bachelor in law, and the course on European Contract Law in the Master in Law. The latter includes 12h negotiation and in the past Robert H. Mnookin Negotiation Workshops were organised in Leuven.
The varied research has led to six Ph.D. defenses over the last years, and four post-doctoral mandates. There is a research program on Art, Law & Management, on Gambling Law, and on Construction law, as well as expertise in negotiation and mediation, and estate planning (HEP en TEP). The Institute cosponsored a national and an international Francqui Chair, as well as two TPR Chairs.
Each year since 2002 two seminars focus on a specific theme and a book appears in the series Topics in Contract Law. The book Contracts and Property in a Nutshell, offers a thorough yet accessible analysis on Belgian law in this field. The same goes for the classic Dekkers-Verbeke, III, on the law of obligations, evidence and specific contracts, updated by A. Verbeke, N. Carette and K. Vanhove. The series Contrat & Patrimoine is a collaboration with KULAK, ULB, Lille and Paris 2. The Institute further participates in the chief editorship of several series such as Law and Business, Monographies on Civil Law and Civil Procedure, Law in a Nutshell .
The Institute for Contract Law has a strong research collaboration with the Centre for Methodology of Law (Prof. B. Tilleman), the Institute for Property Law (Prof. V. Sagaert & Prof. A. Verbeke) and the Centre for Construction Law (Prof. K. Deketelaere & Prof. A. Verbeke)
