Curriculum vitae:
After having obtained in 1961 a diploma of industrial (electro-mechanics) engineer at the Polytechnic College (Rijkshoger Instituut voor Kernenergiebedrijven) in Mol (Belgium) and a certificate for technological teaching at the Technical Teaching College in Hasselt (Belgium), Professor Willy Geysen continued his studies at the K.U.Leuven and was granted in 1967 a Master in electro-mechanical engineering (Power engineering).
In 1970 Professor Willy Geysen obtained a Ph.D. (Doctor in applied sciences) at the K.U.Leuven with a thesis on (translated from the Dutch title) "Calculation of the magnetic field in a cross section and the induction in the air gap of an induction motor, taken into account the saturation, the teeth effect and the real current distribution".
In 1980 he obtained also his law degree (licentiaat - LLM) from the Central State Examination Committee.
From 1975 till 1993 Prof. W. Geysen was chairman of the Power Division at the Electrical Engineering Department (Engineering Faculty) of the K.U.Leuven. From 1975 till 1990 he also acted as coordinator of the Postgraduate programme on Safety Engineering.
In his research he was active in energy fluxes and in field calculations in electrical machines.
His main research intrest actually is with the causes of fire and explosions and with the influence of standards, regulations and specs. Furthermore he acts frequently as forensic investigator of fires and explosions.
From 1964 till 1969 Professor Willy Geysen followed the Diploma courses organized by the Belgian Government (Ministry of Home Affairs) in Hasselt and Antwerp to obtain the three certificates for a candidate fire-officer (part time basis).
